Transition to Year 7
Message from Year 7 Director
"As Year 7 Director, the smooth transition from Primary school is very important to me. Secondary school presents an exciting, yet challenging, time for any child and it is my job to ensure that each child is fully equipped to meet the challenges that lie ahead."
We work closely with all our feeder schools to ensure that Year 6 pupils are prepared for this period of change in their lives.
I will, personally, visit all our Primary schools and meet all the pupils who will be in my care in September. Detailed discussions with class teachers allow me to gain an insight to each child’s strengths and areas where support may be needed.
Many pupils take advantage of additional visits to The Priory Witham Academy.
These take place both in and out of school hours and provide an opportunity for pupils to familiarise themselves with their new surroundings. Our Induction Days provide pupils with a learning experience and an opportunity to meet their Form Tutor and teaching staff, as well as experience secondary lessons in our wonderful, new buildings.
The Induction Evening enables parents and carers to meet with Form Tutors and key staff. This includes the members of the Year 7 team whose care and commitment continues throughout the year. Once the Autumn Term is underway, the Form Tutors are the first point of contact for both pupils and parents. The Settling-In Evening ensures that any teething problems are quickly resolved.
The partnership between our Academy and parents/carers is very important to me. I encourage parents to be fully involved with their child’s progress and I welcome them to make an appointment with me to discuss any aspect of their child’s education.
Year 7 pupils can look forward to an enjoyable and productive year, full of new challenges, hard work, success and rewards!
Miss L Reddington
